Scaling YouTube Campaigns in DV360: Best Practices for 2026
(Part 2)

Welcome to the second part of our best practices guide for running YouTube advertising campaigns through DV360. This time, we will focus on the role of creative in video campaign performance, explore how to work with YouTube Shorts, Product Feeds, and Partnership Ads, and explain how to build a remarketing architecture that enables consistent engagement with audiences across different stages of the funnel.

In 2026, an ad that looks like an ad is the main reason viewers ignore it. YouTube Shorts changes the rules: content that feels organic, personal, and social wins — not polished. Brands that ignore this logic aren't just missing out on a format — they're losing contact with half of a unique mobile audience.

According to a Nielsen Catalina Solutions study, campaign performance is strongly influenced by creative quality, with creative accounting for nearly half of the impact on return on investment (ROI):

  • 49% — creative impact on ROI;
  • 30% — media factors;
  • 21% — brand strength.

An Ekimetrics study confirms that applying the key principles of effective video advertising — including clear product demonstration, emotional storytelling, a focused message, strong use of audio, and a compelling call to action — can double ROI for YouTube campaigns.

In 2026, a YouTube video should no longer be treated as a static asset. It is a dynamic tool that should be adapted to the specific campaign type.

CoobX recommends the following asset mix at the Line Item level:

  • Video Reach Campaign (VRC): to maximize reach, combine horizontal assets (15–20 sec), bumpers (6 sec), and vertical videos (10–20 sec) across Shorts, In-feed, and In-Stream formats.
  • Video View Campaign (VVC): to maximize engagement at the Consideration stage, use longer horizontal videos of up to 3 minutes alongside vertical formats.
  • Demand Gen: to generate demand across YouTube, Discover, and Gmail, use a broader mix of assets:
    • Images: 3 landscapes (with an aspect ratio of 1.91:1), 3 squares (1:1), and 3 portraits (4:5).
    • Videos: 1 landscape (15–30 sec), 1 square (15–30 sec), and 1 vertical (15–20 sec).
    • Copy: at least 3 headlines and 3 descriptions.

Creating effective video creative also means following a set of principles defined in the ABCD Framework.

ABCD Framework: The Foundation of Effective Creative

The ABCD Framework is built around four principles that work together as a unified approach to optimizing video creative. The key is to guide the viewer’s attention throughout the ad — from the initial visual hook to the final call to action (CTA):

  • Attention: capture attention from the very first seconds with dynamic pacing, close-up shots, on-screen text, and audio that reinforces the visual message.
  • Branding: introduce the brand from the opening seconds and maintain a clear, consistent presence throughout the video — both visually and through audio. This is especially important, as 95% of YouTube users watch videos with sound.
  • Connection: build an emotional connection through humor, intrigue, or an unexpected turn in the story. At the same time, keep the core message clear and concise without overloading viewers with information.
  • Direction: include a clear call to action (CTA) at the end of the video — whether to buy, book, register, or take another desired action. Reinforce the on-screen CTA with a voice-over.

A Google/Kantar study (2021) shows that applying the framework can drive up to a 30% increase in short-term sales and a 17% increase in long-term brand contribution.

In 2026, Direction remains one of the most underused elements of video creative. While Branding appears in 60% of videos, a compelling CTA is used in only 22%. At the same time, the analysis shows that effective use of Direction has the greatest potential impact on ROI — 1.5% compared with 0.7% for Branding.

Creative Safe Zones and Managing Creative Fatigue

Following Creative Safe Zones in 2026 is an essential technical standard. Logos, text, and key visual elements should be placed within the safe viewing area, avoiding the lower and right-hand corners, where player interface elements, the Skip button, and other UI elements usually appear.

Using overlay templates during storyboard development helps prevent key messages from being obscured across devices, from smartphones to Connected TV.

  • Vertical format (Shorts): an absolute must-have for mobile devices in 2026. When a horizontal video is shown on a smartphone, around 70% of the screen area is lost. Adding vertical versions (720×1280 px) to the media mix delivers +45% visibility in VRC.

  • First 5 seconds strategy: this is the critical window in Skippable Ads before the Skip button appears. The goal is to create immediate intrigue and motivate the user to continue watching. Place your strongest visual and narrative elements at the beginning of the creative, because this moment has the greatest impact on viewer retention.

Remember that even the best-performing creative loses effectiveness over time. CoobX experts recommend adding new videos to Line Items every 14 days to reduce Creative Fatigue and prevent declining audience engagement. If your advertising budget is limited, you don’t necessarily need to produce a new video from scratch. Instead, refresh the existing one:

  • change the order of scenes;
  • update the color palette or background music;
  • test different CTA button designs and messaging;
  • create a new Opening Shot edit for the first 5 seconds of the video.

Integrating YouTube Shorts: The Role of Short-Form Video in Modern Media Strategies

In 2026, short vertical video has become one of the key formats for content consumption. YouTube reaches more than 2 billion signed-in users every month, while daily Shorts views have already exceeded 200 billion.

A key advantage of YouTube is the users can watch both Shorts and long-form video. For 76% of users, this is a major reason for choosing the platform; 70% of YouTube channels regularly upload Shorts, while 54% of viewers consume both formats within a single YouTube session.

Combining short- and long-form video within a single Line Item allows brands to engage users at different levels of engagement. Keep in mind that Shorts has its own distinct audience. By excluding Shorts inventory in DV360, brands may miss the opportunity to reach nearly half of unique mobile users.

To get the most out of YouTube Shorts, advertisers need to account for the fact that Shorts ads are consumed differently from traditional pre-roll. Their creative approach is shaped by five core principles, often referred to as the “DNA of YouTube Shorts”:

  • Upbeat: there is no room for a long introduction in Shorts. The video should start with a strong Hook within the first 1–3 seconds. Dynamic editing, fast scene changes, and rhythmic music help sustain attention until the end.
  • Social: create content that encourages discussion, comments, or makes viewers want to share it with friends.
  • Native: the video should feel like organic user-generated content. If it looks too polished or too much like a traditional TV commercial, viewers are more likely to swipe away immediately.
  • Authentic: show the product in cultural and everyday situations that feel familiar to users in the target market.
  • Personal: the protagonist should speak directly to the viewer, creating a sense of one-to-one communication.

Creating this kind of native content helps cut through ad blindness and build an emotional connection with viewers as they naturally engage with content.

Product Feeds, Partnership Ads, QR Codes for CTV, and Remarketing Architecture

Modern YouTube campaigns should be designed not only to drive engagement, but also for direct sales. Let’s look at how advertisers can turn viewer attention into purchases using several key tools.

Product Feeds

When running YouTube campaigns in Display & Video 360, advertisers can turn regular video views into direct sales opportunities with Product Feeds.

This functionality is particularly well suited to e-commerce businesses and can be used across all activation types except Video Ad Sequence. To set it up, connect your Google Merchant Center account to DV360 via Linked Accounts at the Advertiser level, then select the relevant feed in the Line Item settings.

Product Feeds also allow advertisers to customize delivery. You can make all products available and let AI algorithms determine which items to show to each user, define a list of priority products, or select a specific category. During ad delivery, a horizontal carousel of product cards appears next to the video player, showing the image, product name, and current price. Clicking a card takes the user directly to the product landing page, while the main video CTA remains active and directs users to the campaign website.

For effective implementation, keep a few technical considerations in mind:

  • once a Line Item has been saved, its feed cannot be replaced. If you need to use a different feed, you will have to create a new LI;
  • the feed must be active and fully up to date. All products shown in the ad should be in stock and have accurate pricing and descriptions.

Partnership Ads

The next strategic step for driving conversions at the lower stages of the funnel is Partnership Ads, which allow advertisers to use organic or sponsored videos from YouTube creators’ channels as ads, following a model similar to TikTok Spark Ads.

The ad is served under the creator’s identity, including their recognizable channel icon, which makes the creative feel more native and allows it to scale across vertical Shorts and other YouTube formats. The data supports the effectiveness of this approach: 54% of consumers find creator content more relevant than branded content, 83% of viewers discover new brands through creators and influencers, while activating Partnership Ads through DV360 delivers, on average, 10% more website clicks and up to 20% higher conversion rates

Partnership Ads are supported across Video Reach Campaign, Video View Campaign, and Demand Gen. Setup can be completed in three steps:

  • Select an existing creator video or create one together with a creator;
  • Link the video in the Linked Accounts section by sending a Brand link request, which the creator approves in YouTube Studio;
  • Add the verified video to the campaign.

One of the key advantages of Partnership Ads is that DV360 reporting includes not only standard advertising metrics, but also the full organic performance data for the creator video.

YouTube Remarketing

Once a user has interacted with a Product Feed or seen an ad on a creator’s channel, the next step is to bring them back into the funnel. This can be done through YouTube remarketing.

First, make sure your YouTube channel is linked to your DV360 account. Only then can you create remarketing audience lists in the YouTube users section under First-party data and, in Demand Gen campaigns, build Lookalike audiences based on your own first-party signals.

DV360 provides flexible controls for remarketing lists, including:

  • Membership duration: defines how long a user remains in the audience before being automatically removed;
  • Audience collection rules: you can add users who interacted with the channel itself — for example, users who visited your YouTube channel, subscribed, or shared videos from the channel — as well as users who interacted with a specific video;
  • Status (Open or Closed): controls whether new users can be added to the remarketing audience;
  • Initial list size: allows you to start audience collection from scratch or include signals from the previous 30 days.

The minimum audience size required for activation is 100 users, although in practice, a larger audience is needed for effective delivery and optimization. DV360 shows the current audience size and whether those users can also be reached across other channels and environments, such as Gmail and CTV devices, creating a strong foundation for cross-channel engagement strategies.

Instant Conversions on Connected TV: QR Codes in Video Ads

In 2026, as CTV takes an increasing share of the media mix, interactive QR codes have become a practical way to drive conversions directly from the big screen. One of the key advantages is that advertisers no longer need to rely on designers to create these elements: DV360 can automatically generate and add a QR code to the video ad based on the landing page URL.

Visually, the QR code is seamlessly integrated into the ad format: two-thirds of the screen is dedicated to the video, while the remaining third displays the generated QR code. Once scanned with a smartphone, the code takes the user directly to the advertiser’s website. The feature is available as part of Instant Reserve deals, and activation simply requires adding CTV to the YouTube campaign’s device targeting.

Interactive QR codes on Connected TV complement the broader set of tools that allow brands not only to scale YouTube reach, but also to shorten the path from ad exposure to the next interaction with the brand.

Effectively scaling YouTube campaigns in DV360 requires applying best practices for formats and assets across VRC and VVC campaigns, as well as the ABCD Framework and the DNA of YouTube Shorts. Businesses looking to go further can leverage Product Feeds, Partnership Ads, QR codes on CTV, and flexible remarketing audience settings to engage users consistently throughout the entire User Journey.

In Part 3, we’ll take YouTube campaign management in DV360 to the next level by exploring the platform’s built-in AI tools, Creative AI, and advanced measurement approaches — from Brand Lift and Search Lift to Unique Reach, Frequency, and Floodlight conversions.
